| 6-SMT

Melatonin, an indoleamine, is a natural compound produced by various organisms, including bacteria and eukaryotes.Melatonin is metabolized with an elimination half-life ranging from 20 to 50 minutes.The primary metabolic pathway transforms melatonin into 6-hydroxymelatonin, which is then conjugated with sulfate and excreted in urine as a waste product.6-hydroxymelatonin Sulfate (6-SMT) is the main excretion form of melatonin in urine.6-SMT as a stable terminal metabolite for the assessment of long-term melatonin secretion levels (e.g., in sleep disorders, depression diagnosis).
